I’m really excited to be writing this post! Last month I sold a small batch of my raw grawnola on Instagram and the response was pretty good (thank you all of you who bought!).

2 Hummus Recipes – Roasted Red Pepper and Beetroot

Hi everyone,

As many of you may know, I consider hummus one of the greatest dishes on this earth.  A few weeks ago I visited this Mediterranean place at Haji Lane and was served some really bland tasting hummus =( Needless to say, I left feeling VERY disappointed and had a big gaping unsatisfied craving!

So Me+Unsatisfied cravings do not go well together. I made up for the craving by making home made hummus for 3 weeks straight! Haha i think I can safely say that my cravings are officially SATISFIED.

Anyway, I love making different variations of Hummus. These 2 weeks, my fav variations were the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus and Roasted Beetroot Hummus. SO YUM!! I’ve been basically pairing them with all my dishes – as a dip, a spread and a dressing for my salads!

ROASTED RED PEPPER HUMMUS

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1 large Red Bell Pepper
1 Can Chickpeas (try to buy those that are soaked in water)
2 TBS Tahini
2 cloves Garlic
2 TBS Lemon Juice
2 TBS Water
1/4 TSP Salt
Olive Oil

HERE’S HOWred pepper hummus
1) Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Remove the stalk and seeds and slice the Red pepper in to stripes. Drizzle generously with olive oil and place in the oven for at least 40 – 50 min. Only remove it once the edges are starting to brown or blacken.

2) In a food processor, add all ingredients and process away.
> I don’t add much salt but taste as you process your hummus and add more till you find the taste that suits you best.
> I also like my hummus really thick. If you want a smoother consistency, add bit more lemon juice or liquid.

ROASTED BEET ROOT HUMMUS

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1 medium Beetroot (mine was slightly more than 300g)
1 Can Chickpeas (try to buy those that are soaked in water)
3 TBS Tahini
1 large clove Garlic
3 TBS Lemon Juice
1 TBS Water
1/4 TSP Salt
1/2 TSP Cumin seeds
Olive Oil

HERE’S HOW

1) Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Remove the skin and slice the beetroom into even pieces (not too thin or they may become chips!). Drizzle generously with olive oil and place in the oven for at least 35-45 min. Only remove it the pieces start to soften and caramelize.

2) In a food processor, add all ingredients and process away.
> I don’t add much salt but taste as you process your hummus and add more till you find the taste that suits you best. I acutally added abit more cumin afterwards because i simply love the taste. Feel free to add more if you wish.
> This hummus is thicker than the roasted Red Pepper one. Similarly, add more lemon juice or water if you don’t want it so thick.

Imagine how delighted I was when the nice folks at Soyato sent me 2 tubs of Soyato Ice Cream …I couldn’t stop smiling =D Here are the two flavours that I got to try : Green Tea and Mint Chocolate Chip

Green Tea flavour – definitely my favourite among the 2 flavours! Strange thing is, I’m not crazy over Matcha and on a normal day I would choose Mint over Green Tea hands down. But I think the main reason why this flavour got my vote is because its SO CREAMY. I’m a sucker for creamy textures and they’ve nailed the texture with this flavour. I also like that both the soy and matcha flavours are well-balanced and not too overpowering or sweet. My siblings gave the Green Tea flavour their stamp of approval with an exclaimed “Wow this is vegan meh?”. Ha, something every vegan/vegetarian hopes to hear their non-vege friends say.

DSCN9240 Mint Chocolate Chip flavour– I also like this flavour – it’s light and minty; resembling more of a sorbet like texture. My favourite part is the crunchy bits of chocolate chunks you find inside the ice cream. yummehhh. Oh I have to add that I was pleasantly surprised that this ice cream wasn’t the typical green-colour you’ve come to expect from mint flavoured desserts. But its great because I get none of the artificial mint taste but still remains refreshing at the same time.

Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream with Peanut Mochi and Red Bean Paste

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
– 2 to 3 scoops of SOYATO Green Tea Ice Cream
–  Peanut Powder
– Dango Powder
–  Red Bean Paste

* I bought the Peanut powder, Dango powder (rice flour) and Red bean paste from Daiso. Surprisingly, all vegan too!

Step 1:
Follow the instructions on the Dango Powder packaging. Mix 250ml of powder with 200 ml of warm water. Knead till the mixture becomes dough-like and sticky. Roll into mochi balls and put in in a pot of boiling water.

Wait till the mochi balls turn become soft and chewy before you remove them. Coat them in peanut powder and leave one side.

Step 2:
Scoop the green tea ice cream in a bowl, decorate with peanut mochi bowls and add red bean paste on the side. Sprinkle with more peanut powder and you’re good to go. Easy peasy eh?  I’m definitely going to make this dessert again when my friends come over because its a sure win crowd pleaser.

I think that the best thing about Soyato ice cream is that you don’t have to compromise on taste despite choosing something healthy and less sugar-laden. Great for not just vegans, but anyone who loves desserts / conscious about their weight / health conscious. Welcome to a very belated 2014!

 

2014 Hi everyone,

YIKES it has been more than a month since I last blogged! So sorry for the lack of posts and here’s a very very belated HAPPY 2014! Technically, the Chinese New Year just passed so it IS the New Year (haha okok enough excuses!) I’ve been busy settling into my new job and adjusting back to the 9-5 lifestyle. Got into a bout of writers block but I gave myself an ultimatium to write today, so I set down and penned 4 posts! Will publish them over the next few days=)

Today’s post is going to be a personal reflection – but I’ll try to keep it short and sweet.

2013 was such a challenging year but it was nothing short of amazing. I pushed myself to do and try many different things and like the quote says, “life happens at the end of your comfort zone”.

I worked in a raw food kitchen, was a raw pastry chef for a while, met so many new vegan/ vegetarian friends at home and abroad, travelled for ¼ of the year, immersed myself in new cultures and flavours, hit over 1,000 likes on instagram, had my first blog sponsor, filmed a feature for a TV programme about raw foods, sold my first raw cake, printed my first name card and witnessed many of my good friends get hitched=) I couldn’t be more grateful for the experiences, memories and lessons learnt in 2013. A big thank you to all my readers too! Sometimes, I’m surprised people actually read my blog haha so you have no idea how much it means to receive  lovely emails and encouraging comments. And to also have met some of you in person!

2014 is a brand new year – and because i’m so near the end of my twenties, I’ve penned down a few Resoltuions + bucket list items to complete before i hit the big THREE OH

Visit my grandparents regularaly . Travel to at least 10 new cities. Learn to dive. Say YES to more things that scare me . Say NO to more things that don’t matter. Continue cooking. Bungee. Parasail. Pick-up spanish. Re-learn the guitar . Give thanks daily. Get my teeth fixed. Have my own raw food range. Spread the Raw food love. to finally do a split in yoga class. learn photoshop. volunteer. live overseas. learn to cook vegetarian dishes from my grandma. Read widely. and…BLOG REGULARLY!

Just a little background about how I came to know Ting Ting and Yi Shuai –  When I first started being vegetarian, i didn’t know any one in my social circle who had the same eating habits as I did. It was a little lonely and awkward at times …especially during large social gatherings! I was really blessed to come across Yi Shuai’s instagram account a year ago and I remembered thinking to myself “OMG,another Singaporean!” . Through Yi Shuai , I got introduced to Ting Ting and so many more people who share similar passions and beliefs as I did. This journey has definitely gotten more enjoyable and supportive through such new found friends=)

1)      Rosemary and Sweet Orange Hand Cream  – $16

This has got to be my favourite product among all the products I’ve tried! First, let me start with a disclaimer. I’m a huge fan of hand creams and am the kind of person who buys more than I can use. The result is lots of half used tubes of hand creams (oops!) haha.

Light and non greasy, well absorbed!

This hand cream is a little different from the typical hand cream I normally use. When I first applied it, I thought the smell wasn’t as strong and a little antiseptic. But after a few applications, I really grew to LOVE the citrus scent of the rosemary and sweet orange – light but uplifting. I think we’re all so used to heavily perfumed creams that we sometimes find natural products too bland. I also like that the cream isn’t sticky and very easily absorbed. The Shea Butter and Wheatgerm ingredients help to nourish my hands and they feel moisturized and soft even after a long while. I’ve let my friends try this product and so far, its gotten a big thumbs up =)

2)      Body Lotion with Kalahari Melon Soap  – $16

My other fav product is the Body Lotion. I don’t mean to scare you but I have very dry legs…my skin gets very scaly and flaky and sometimes even bleeds when I don’t properly moisturize. The result of neglecting to apply sunblock when I was younger and doing alot of outdoor sports =(  To see if this body lotion was really effective, I specifically applied it on my legs for this post.

The tube is small – only 200ml, but Woon ( the owner) had told me that because the ingredients are so pure and potent, I didn’t actually need to apply a large quantity. And true enough, I’m still using the tube even after 1 month plus of daily application. What I love about this product is the refreshing smell of the melon, the non-greasy feel and most of all, the fact that my legs are much more hydrated throughout the day!  After consistently applying it, I do find that my skin is less scaly and looks more healthy.  Read up and found out that the Kalahari Melon has high Omega 6 and Phytosterol levels which give it strong moisturizing, restructuring and anti-aging properties. Definitely something I would buy again for myself and for others.

3)     Shea Butter Handmade Soap (baby+adult) – $8

I chose to write about this product because it surprised me the most. I don’t have a habit of using bars of soap because I’ve always had a fear that it was dirty…but I decided to give it a try. The first thought that came to my mind when I used it was…”wow, I feel so ….clean”. Seriously haha! And despite that, it was gentle on my skin and my skin didn’t feel dry. What I also liked was that this soap was hand made (I’m a sucker for anything hand made) and its so affordable!

I think it took me a while to get used to using soap bars but I can see why people would want to. Way before we had bottles and pumps, soaps were the original cleansers. Its cheaper, uses less packaging and can last for a long time. For those who have kids, you’ll notice that this soap is suitable for both adults and babies. Think that really says alot about the gentleness and quality of the ingredients used.

World Vegan Day Celebration

Friday (1 Nov) was World Vegan Day and I attended a Vegan Potluck party organised by the very sweet Sonal!

It was my first time attending a vegan potluck and I was really excited. Got to catch up with fellow instagrammers and made new found friends! Really interesting getting to know everyone , hearing their personal stories and going “OMG, you too?”. Nice to be part of the majority for once.  One thing was pretty obvious : We may have different reasons for going vegan or vegetarian (health/animal rights/religion/environmental) but whatever they may be, we’re all working (or rather , un-eating our way) towards a common good.

Everyone contributed a dish for the potluck and the food was nothing short of DEEEELISHHCIOUS! Was so impressed by the dishes and effort put into all the dishes…we have some seriously talented home cooks amongst us!  I ate ate and ATE… don’t waste right?

Going 80/10/10

Today I wanna share with you how I’m going to go Back To Basics with the 80/10/10 Raw Vegan diet over the next few weeks. But first …

WHAT IS THE 801010 DIET?

The 801010 diet was coined by Dr Douglas Graham, a long time raw foodist and athlete. This diet is essentially a low fat version of the Raw Foods Diet  and promotes that you should get 80% of your daily intake from fruit/veg carbohydrates, 10% from protein(non-animal sources) and 10% comes from whole fat sources, such as avocado and raw nuts. Dr Graham who has been a raw foodist for almost 30 years claims that this ratio optimises one’s energy, ability to maintain weight and boost athletic performance. A typical meal a day consists of consuming large amounts of fruits, some leafy vegetables and a small amount of nuts and seeds. As compared the the typical Raw Foods Diet which is more highly laden with fat because of the large consumption of nuts, seeds, oils and sweeteners.

WHY IM DOING THIS

When I  started my raw foods lifestyle a few years ago, my meals were very basic. I didn’t own any fancy equipment like a blender, a food processor or a dehydrator. All I had was a chopping board and a peeler. My knowledge of raw foods was very limited –  My meals consisted mostly of fruits, large raw salads , nut milks and small portions of raw nuts and seeds. I felt great, full of energy, positivity, had a stabilised weight and most of all healthy – alll the benefits of going RAW! Looking back, I unknowingly started off my raw foods journey as a Low Fat Raw Vegan eater.

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that this year, I quit my corporate job to work at a raw food restaurant in Singapore. It was such an eye opener for me! I got introduced to a wider spectrum of the raw cuisine and the  many possibilities . I started consuming alot more complex raw meals (like raw pizzas, burgers, sauces, cakes) which used a range of ingredients and different techniques (from soaking, sprouting, marination, dehydration etc). You have to give it up to raw foodists/vegans – they manage to recreate all their familiar favourites in a way that is in line with their ethics while feeling no sense of deprivation. Oh and i loved and embraced this new way of eating raw! The creativity, the flavours, the endless possibilities… i was hooked!

I have a huge weakness for desserts. While I was at the Living Cafe, on top of the raw meals, I ATE SO MUCH RAW DESSERTS. Seriously, I’m not kidding you. It was like Buffet Town everyday and “eating in moderation” was not a slogan i identified with.

The result? I put on around 3Kg in 7 months…and even more after I came back from London last month. Though I’ve finished my stint at the Living Cafe, my love for high fat, complex raw foods stayed. I always have raw chocolate and some sort of raw dessert in my fridge, and basically use nuts and sweeteners in almost all my dishes (from appetizers to mains to snacks). Even when I’m not making raw foods, I make vegan dishes that similarly use lots of nuts and oils too. I slowly started feeling more bloated/sluggish and because my digestive tract is very sensitive, I also got constipated more easily. But I didn’t listen to my body and continued eating the way I did.

Last month, after undergoing a 5 day juice cleanse, I felt GREAT! After the fast ended I went back to my normal way of eating raw foods and then the bloatedness/weight came back. I was actually quite demoralized. Like…what was I doing wrong? I’m wasn’t eating anything unhealthy! Then while scrolling through Instagram around 1 week plus ago, one my favourite instagrammers (@Serenesayyian) mentioned that she was going on a 801010 cleanse.  I read up abit more bout this 801010 diet …and the more I read up and researched, the more I realised what went wrong – I was eating a High Fat Raw Vegan diet.  And I decided it was time for a change. Time to go back to basics.

THE RAW DEAL

While happily indulging on guilt-free raw meals, its easy to forget that though these meals may not contain unhealthy stuff like dairy products or animal fat, they are not devoid of fats and calories. Especially so for raw desserts as they seem to be missing the large quantities of phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals that come from fresh fruits and vegetables.

Take a typical raw cake for example – its made up of 60-70% nuts, uses natural sweeteners (like agave, xyltiol), coconut oil,  fruits high in fat like coconut and avocados and cacao/cacao butters. Likewise, a raw pizza uses a nutty/grainy base, marinated raw vegetables (ie, marinated in oils & seasoning) and mostly nut/oil based dressings.

BUT…NOT ALL FATS ARE BAD RIGHT?

This was the first question that came to my mind when I read about a High Fat Raw Vegan Diet. Surely the fat that comes from nuts, seeds and plants are healthier than saturated or trans fats right? And aren’t there many studies that support the fact that unsaturated fat (fat from plants) have benefits such as improving your HDL and reducing the risks of heart diseases? I’m no doctor or nutritionist but my thoughts are that whilst these fats are essential and not harmful…they should also be taken in moderation and within the required daily intake. Its VERY easy to consume more fat than you normally need (will touch more about this in the later weeks)

Vegetarian diet contains 42% fats

Vegan diet contains 42% fats (think non-dairy milks, vegan margarine, vegan packaged food, soy cheese, coconut products etc)

Raw Vegan diet contains 60%+ fats! (easily more if you’re living in a country with easy access to pre-packaged raw snacks, butters, desserts and entree in health food stores)**

I guess what I’m trying to say here is that : I believe in a Raw Vegan diet and have personally benefited from it. But as I’ve come to realise this past year, there is also such a thing as an Unhealthy Raw Vegan diet too. You definitely don’t have to stop eating raw cakes and entrees of course ( God knows I can’t do that!! ) but its best to find a balance so that you don’t over consume your intake of fats and calories.

I’ll be going back to simple, basic raw meals that’ll follow closely to the 801010 diet for the next 3 weeks (7 – 31 Oct). I’ll share my experiences, results, meal intakes, FAQs, tips, health issues etc during this period too. September – Product Round Up

Kelp Noodles

I’ve heard so much about kelp noodles and its staple in many other raw foodist’s diets and have been very keen to try this. I very un-subtlety hinted to my friends that I wanted this haha! Kelp noodles are made out of kelp (a sea vegetable) into the form of an easy to eat noodle. Kelp noodles are fat-free, gluten-free, low in carbs and calories. When I first removed it from the packet and tried it, I really hated it. It was chewy and had this strange bitter taste and I was so disappointed. So I decided to add it to my salad and mix in a walnut-miso sauce. I allowed it to marinate for around 1 hr and was surprised to see that the texture of the noodles had softened. Taste why, thank heavens, there was no more bitter taste as it absorbed the flavour from the vegetables and sauce. I kept half the bowl over night and the next day, the noodles were even softer and tastier. Woohoo, so excited to use this is many more recipes to come…best of all, it tastes like glass noodles which is one of my favs!

Go Raw! Chocolate Super Cookies

To be honest, when I first opened this packet, the bite size “cookies” reminded me a similar dog treat that I bought for oreo haha! I actually quite like this but beware it has a very strong coconut taste so if you’re not a fan of coconut you should avoid this. I think a MAHJOORRR plus point is the price! The Go RAW! Products are really expensive in Singapore…and I’ve seen this being sold for around $9.90 at one of the leading organic food stores.

Go Raw! Live Granola Bars (10 bars)

These granola bars are made with organic sprouted grains and seeds and I love that it’s not very sweet. Also love that it’s nut-free! But my family preferred the super cookies to this because they thought it tasted too healthy. The bar is rather flat, and I can probably finish it within 5 mouthfuls so it’s an ideal snack if you’re looking for something light and healthy to munch on. Definitely beats the conventional sugar filled bars they sell outside. Oh and each bar is only 70 calories woohoo.  I’ve been munching on these after yoga class for the past week !

What can I say. Chocolate + Coconut butter? Matchmade in heaven! I’m a huge fan of the Artisana range but its deliriously expensive in our local stores (almost twice as ex)…so glad its available online. I like to add a TBS of the cacao coconut butter to my “raw” banana ice cream. Sometimes I also add in lucuma powder, almond butter etc …tastes great!

My siblings got me a very sensible present – mason jars! I think I hog too many of the containers and jars at home haha. Love the size because its not too big and fits just nice in the lower end compartment of my fridge. I’ve been using this to store all my food stuff like sauces, nut butters, soaked seeds etc. I previously mentioned to my sister that the mason jar lids seem to rust easily (does this happen to any of you too?). Ahh another new toy for my kitchen collection. I’ve been making lots of entrees of spiralized zucchini/beetroot/carrot noodles lately (so sorry deserts!) because its so much fun. This spiralizer works like a breeze and it can also make different shapes.

Last but not least, here’s my birthday pressie to myself! Happy 27th birthday me! It has been such an amazing year…I’ve taken many leaps of faith, travelled, met so many new people and encountered difficult and challenging circumstances that have made me stronger and more humble. Kinda at the crossroads now, but I trust that God will lead me through this=)

My 5 Day Juice Fast with Beauty Cleanse

Early last month, I was thrilled when Beauty Cleanse approached me to sponsor a juice fast.  Beauty Cleanse offers nutritionist designed juice cleanse programs which are 100% raw, vegan and organic!

So here’s how my Juice Cleanse went!

Before the cleanse –

Like every other type of fast, its important not to dive right into it and give your body the shock of its life. 3 days before I started the cleanse, I prepared my body by consuming lots of raw fruits and vegetables.  If you’re fasting for the first time, I would strongly advice pre-planning your week and clearing your schedule so that you can have lots of rest during this detoxification.

Then for the fun part- I had to choose the type of cleanse plan I wanted, how long I wanted to fast for and whether or not I wanted supplements.

Beauty Cleanse has 3 different types of cleanse plans to target different needs.

Beauty Cleanse also sent me a Pre-Fast guideline and a Daily Routine Summary as a reference to how and when I should take my supplements and juices throughout the day.

MY 5 DAY JUICE CLEANSE

The night before my juice cleanse, the Beauty Cleanse team delivered juices for the first 3 days of my fast to my home.  I was actually quite excited when I saw all the colourful bottles because it looked so pretty!

Here’s a journal log I kept during my 5 day fast.

DAY 1  Really excited to kick start this detox and well, get back those skinny genes!  The juices come with a  handy size Juice Cleanse booklet which basically guides you through your fast, contains tips on how to get through the day.

So I followed the steps and started off my morning with a glass of warm lemon juice and my supplements. During my previous fasts, I had constipation because I wasn’t consuming any fibre, so this time I opted for the colosan powder to help eliminate waste and cleanse my colons thoroughly. Note* It’s important to start off your fast with a clean colon so that your body can absorb the nutrients much better.

I stirred in 1 TBS of colosan powder with my morning juice and was expecting myself to run to the toilet but nothing happened. Oh well maybe I have superman colons :X

The day went pretty smoothly, no cravings or hunger pangs whatsoever. In fact, I was pretty full and couldn’t even finish all 6 bottles for the day. The juices were delightful though! My favourites were definitely the green juices (made using kale!)  and cashew milk YUMYUM. The beetroot juice with red cabbage was probably the hardest for me to drink but I gulped it down with my supplements.

DAY 2 – Woke up feeling pretty much the same as Day 1 but surprisingly not hungry at all. I followed my morning ritual of lemon juice and supplements but this time, I took 2.5 TBS of colosan powder since the 1 TBS didn’t have any effect on me. But do note that this is because I have chronic constipation and sometimes even powerful laxatives don’t work on me!

After around 2- 3 hours, the effect took place. I don’t want to gross you out but well, I eliminated alot of waste throughout the day. I’ve been taking laxatives since I was young, so believe me when I say that this is one of the gentlest, least painful forms of colon cleansing that I’ve undergone.

I felt so LIGHT by evening time so I went for 1hr yoga + a 4Km jog.  And no, I didn’t feel weak or dizzy because I wasn’t consuming food. I felt really….clean!

DAY 3– Since I’m currently not working at the moment, a normal day for me starts at 11am. Sometimes even later haha… but today I miraculously woke up at 730am and wasn’t even tired. Can’t remember the last time I needed that little sleep. Was feeling so energetic I brought Oreo out for a morning walk and went for yoga again at night.

I admit, I was initially sceptical about the juices remaining fresh after 3 days…but I was really surprised that the juices tasted as fresh on the third day as on the first day. I think its because Beauty Cleanse uses the awesome cold-pressed Norwalk juicer that maximises nutrients and enzymes and provides oxidation-free juices (aka, my dream juicer!!!)

Plus the bottles are sealed really tight!

No symptons or whatsoever so far….except the familiar fuzzy feeling on my teeth which is slightly annoying.

One thing  to add, one of the juices was a mix of honey  + cayenne pepper and I found it really spicy! Couldn’t really finish the bottles and had to dilute it with water. When the Beauty Cleanse team contacted me to check up on how I was doing, I mentioned this to them and they added less spice for my next batch. So if you find the juices too “bitter” or “unbearable”, the great thing is that you don’t have to suffer in silence because the team can tailor it to make it more palatable for you.

DAY 4  – Woke up feeling a little more tired today. Was out running errands the whole day today and I brought my juices in the cooler bag that was given to me. To be honest, I was worried about how to colosan powder would affect me outside and whether or not my juices would still be nice and cold.

I had to go the toilet more often than usual , like maybe once every 1.5 hours?  Luckily I was in a shopping mall so it wasn’t inconvenient. My juices were also kept cold in that cooler bag for at least half a day. This cooler bag is so useful and not “obiang” at all. I’m still using it to bring all my raw foods out!

Got a bit more lethargic towards the end of the day was dozing off at the bus-stop/in the bus/in the mrt….so I went home early to rest.

Every day, I would receive an email from the Beauty Cleanse team with cleanse tips and encouragement letters. Kinda cool because you feel like someone is actually cheering for you on the sideline =) Oh one interesting thing I learnt about the fast today – One bottle of 500ml juice contains approximately 1KG of fresh, organic produce! So…5 bottles of juices = 5KG worth of living nutrients! So much easier to consume nutrients this way …compared to say eating 5KG worth of salads and fruits!

DAY 5  – Last day of my cleanse…woke up early again but luckily I wasn’t feeling as tired as yesterday.

Have to talk about the main highlight of my day – ran into a friend of mine during yoga and she commented on my sans-makeup face saying that I looked really “alive” and “glowing” and quizzed me about the facial product I was using.  I couldn’t stop looking like this – 😀 !   I actually took a before and after shot of my face (and pores) to show you all the difference….but ALAS I recently changed my phone last week and didn’t backup my photos! Urgh..:(  I had one pimple that was popping out as part of the detoxification process, but other than that, my pores were smaller and my face looked…brigher. So essentially, even though I chose the Skinny Genes plan, I was also getting a Beauty Boost!

I didn’t get any uncomfortable symptoms or feel extremely sluggish throughout the 5 days. But everyone’s body is different so if you’re on a juice fast and have detox symptoms showing as early as day 2, don’t worry because its perfectly normal. I felt that this juice cleanse was such a breeze. It makes a HUGEEEEE difference when you don’t have to shop, wash, chop and juice your produce.  I had so much more time on my hands – no need for visiting the super market (u have no idea how much time this saves me!), conceptualising my juices, prepping my ingredients and most importantly, the hideous task of cleaning your kitchen and washing your juicer.

I also wasn’t fantasizing about solid food because I wasn’t anywhere near it.  When I did my previous juice fast , I was surrounded by so much fruits and vegetables (at home & in the supermarket)…and I admit , many times I was very tempted to pop that grape into my mouth or munch on that juicy apple. I guess the theory “out of sight, out of mind” really does work.

Most importantly, does the Skinny Genes plan allow me to wear SKINNY JEANS?  Yeah! I lost around 2kg and felt so light….not alot to some people but for my frame it’s quite a difference. Some people have mentioned that its easy to pile on back the weight after you’ve stop fasting. Well that’s true, since your calorie intake will increase once you start eating normal foods. But its possible to keep off ALL that weight from piling back. Now that your palate has been cleansed, it’s easier to crave healthier foods and the decision is up to you to consciously choose what goes in your body.

The juice cleanse is a little pricey …but I think it’s definitely worth it if you want a thorough detox and to get your health back on track. Especially so if you lead a busy life or don’t have a clue where to start! Because this cleanse is so convenient, palatable, fuss-free and guided…you won’t have any excuses haha!
